eLearning Award 2013

The project “OpenOLAT4bzg” has earned the “Bildungszentrum Gesundheit Basel-Stadt” and frentix the eLearning Award 2013 in the category Open Source. Der prize was awarded in February at the Didacta in Cologne.

The project team has taken it upon itself to provide a learning solution for a growing number of users and user groups that must be highly flexible, not just scalable, in order to hold the different types of content available – OpenOLAT was chosen with good reasons.

Some important aspects needed to be considered: the LMS should not degenerate to a mere file repository. It is part of a comprehensive media strategy, that has the goal of reorienting the curricula: these should be aligned so that hybrid learning arrangements are possible, and not just complementary enrichment concepts or courses for self-study.

eLearning Award 2012

In 2012, the LMS OpenOLAT was able to convice the judges once more. The project “Sicherheitspolitische Weiterbildung” also won the eLearning Award in the category Open Source. The project was submitted by the “Bundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik” in Berlin, the Federal Republic of Germany’s interministerial institution for advanced studies, education, and training in security policy , and by frentix.

Learners, and learning needs, are encountered everywhere. This is of course also true for public administration. The civilian sector already has to enforce high security standards, because any governmental communication is relevant to security. These requirements are far surpassed in the field of internal security and defense. Here, it is important to guarantee that communication and learning contents are absolutely secure. Accordingly, the obstacles encountered when introducing a learning platform in the “Bundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik (BAKS)” are substantial.
